Job summary

UpSide413 is hiring for an in‑person position in Berkshire County to assist residents in state‑aided housing, promoting tenancy stability and access to resources. The role requires ongoing collaboration with the Director and supervision, with travel across Berkshire County as needed.

The ideal candidate will have strong assessment skills, experience with homeless populations, and excellent communication abilities, including writing and speaking.

Qualifications

Job description

Essential Position Functions

Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged. This position will be in‑person and require regular travel throughout Berkshire County.

  • Assist residents living in state‑aided public housing to maintain successful tenancies and improve their quality of life by providing a combination of supports and referrals.
  • Communicate with the Director of TPP and Related Services through regular supervision to ensure task completion and information sharing.
  • Report to and receive supervision from the Director of the Tenancy Preservation Program (TPP) or a designee.
  • Provide assessment and screening services to determine the type of engagement needed to promote housing stability, prevent homelessness, and determine eligibility for BCRHA’s internal programming and linkage to other mainstream community resources.
  • Inform residents about service availability, how to apply for services and benefits, and other relevant issues.
  • Facilitate communication with service providers to resolve issues or conflicts and ensure implementation of service plans.
  • Establish links to community agencies and service providers, provide basic case management and referral services, and monitor the ongoing provision of services from outside agencies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse cross‑section of Berkshire County’s disadvantaged population, including people of all ages, with complex disabilities, and from differing ethnic, racial, and linguistic communities in a culturally and linguistically responsive manner.
  • Maintain paper and electronic files on all active referrals in compliance with agency and program policies and all state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle for use during working hours, including transporting clients as necessary.
  • Collect, track, and report program data.
  • Perform regular outreach and home visits to tenants.
  • Communicate with PHA on a weekly and/or bi‑weekly basis.
  • Foster a positive, active, and collaborative relationship with residents, local government, non‑profit agencies, social service providers, hospitals, healthcare organizations, colleges/universities, and representatives of the greater community.
  • Perform other similar or related duties as responsibilities necessitate or as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred).
  • Well‑developed assessment/screening skills, crisis intervention and case‑management skills, and knowledge of community resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with poor and treatment‑resistant or unresponsive adults and families in a respectful manner that fosters engagement, hope, and tenancy retention.
  • Minimally 2 years of experience working with homeless or formerly homeless individuals.
  • Minimally 2 years of experience working with adults and families with psychiatric, cognitive, and behavioral disabilities.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • MA driver’s license and use of a personal vehicle for work‑related tasks and travel.

  • Ability to negotiate and resolve differences in a creative and flexible manner with program participants.
  • Ability to function under pressure in a fast‑paced and challenging human‑service environment.
  • Ability to be flexible, open, and responsive to ongoing feedback and complex economic, structural/systemic, and social issues.
  • Ability to articulate and communicate BCRHA’s and the program’s mission in a consistent and enthusiastic manner to all participants.
