Job summary

Jacksonville State University is seeking a Resident Assistant (RA) to join the Housing Operations & Residence Life team. The RA will liaison between Housing Operations and Residence Life, assist residents, and support a comprehensive living-learning environment.

The role includes on-call duties and coordination with the Residence Life Coordinator. Positions may be filled based on applicant skills, with strict adherence to department policies.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be enrolled as a JSU student taking at least three (3) hours per fall or spring semester.
• If not a first-time student, the applicant must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
• Selected applicants must provide evidence of student enrollment and GPA (unofficial transcript or enrollment/GPA printout from MyJSU).

Responsibilities

• Resident Education/Support: meet residents and assist with academic needs and studyHabits.
• Help create a positive studying atmosphere and engage residents in educational programs.
• Offer opportunities for faculty involvement in floor/hall programming.
• Plan and organize educational programs for residents.
• Student Conduct: respond to student behavior to maintain a conducive study environment and protect facilities.
• Help develop a sense of community and encourage self-discipline among residents.
• Safety/Security: be familiar with building fire alarm systems and evacuation procedures.
• Report safety issues and monitor door access in the assigned area.
• Policy Education: inform residents about safety policies and university regulations.
• Administrative: be on call weekdays and weekends, assist in hall openings/closings, complete reports, attend training.
