Job summary

Claremont-Nursing is seeking a Recreation / Activities Aide to enhance residents' quality of life by planning and delivering engaging activities. The role involves leading games, crafts, music, and exercise programs, providing support, documenting activities, and coordinating with staff and families to foster a welcoming campus.

The position requires compassion, organizational skills, and the ability to adapt activities for diverse resident needs while maintaining safety and quality of life.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; degree in Therapeutic Recreation preferred
• Experience in geriatric, long-term care, educational, recreational or related settings
• 1–3 years of related experience preferred
• Experience working with residents with cognitive impairment or dementia
• Strong organizational, communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills
• Creativity and enthusiasm for planning and leading meaningful activities in both small and large groups; public speaking ability
• Ability to brainstorm with other professionals and adapt activities to meet resident needs
• Strong problem-solving abilities with flexibility to adjust to changing situations and the ability to work independently with occasional instruction and some supervision from Director
• Comfort in coordinating with outside vendors and adhering to budgetary guidelines
• Professional documentation and communication skills
• Demonstrate personal qualities of being organized, caring, energetic, patient, compassionate, supportive, dependable, and team‑oriented and with a positive attitude

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement activities: assist in developing and executing recreational and therapeutic activities tailored to residents’ needs, including games, crafts, music, gardening, seasonal decorating, baking, and exercise programs. Provide spiritual support for residents of all cultures and beliefs
• Resident engagement and support: foster a positive environment by encouraging participation, offering emotional support, and ensuring adherence to all safety procedures
• Physical and mental requirements: stand/walk long periods; occasional lifting 10–25 pounds; emotional stability; respond quickly to resident needs; support residents with infectious diseases
• Record keeping: maintain documentation per state/federal regulations incl participation, attendance, assessments, progress notes; participate in care plan meetings
• Collaboration: work with staff, healthcare professionals, families, and vendors to provide entertainment and coordinate events
• Working conditions: indoor/outdoor, temperature/ventilation fluctuations; varied shifts
• Transportation assistance: help arrange transit for residents to activities
• Additional duties: errands, mail distribution, assist with flower arranging, support events, maintain spaces, attend trainings
• Professional representation: project a positive image when interacting with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers
