The Door - A Center of Alternatives in New York City is hiring a Resident Life Coach Coordinator to support approximately 20 residents and guide their transition to independent adulthood. This role emphasizes assessment, planning, collaboration with supports, and life-skills coaching. Required: Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years in youth case management; master’s in social work preferred.

Proficiency in Spanish, French or Mandarin is a plus. Evening/weekend shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; master's in social work or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of case management experience with adolescents; harm reduction preferred.
• Knowledge of positive youth development, social services, and youth resources.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary service provider for approximately 20 residents during stay.
• Conduct needs assessments and develop individual service plans with goals.
• Collaborate with residents, prior case managers, and supports to meet plans.
• Be available for evening and weekend shifts; crisis and life-skills support.
• Connect residents with services and liaise to resources; complete reporting.
• Escort tenants to appointments and facilitate groups/workshops.
• Represent The Door at external events; perform other duties as needed.

Position: Resident Life Coach CoordinatorSupervisor: Resident Life Coach SupervisorThe Door is an unparalleled model for youth development, offering a comprehensive range of integrated services within a single site for nearly eleven thousand New York City youth each year. Our mission is to empower young adults to reach their full potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment. At The Door, youth can access health care and education, mental health counseling and crisis assistance, legal assistance, college preparation services, career development, housing supports, arts, sports and recreational activities, and nutritious meals – all for free and under one roof. By providing participants with our suite of integrated services, we seek to provide any motivated young person with the tools, resources, and opportunities needed to successfully transition to adulthood.The Door’s Supportive Housing Program provides 95 units of permanent supported housing at two residential locations in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Residents of The Door’s Supportive Housing are young adults aged 18 - 26 at risk of homelessness, young people aging out of foster care, young people with mental illness, and young parents. The Resident Life Coach will assist Residents in their successful navigation of independent young-adult life, specifically, personal and educational/job-related concerns.Responsibilities:Act as a primary service provider for approximately 20 residents for full length of stay. This will include completing ongoing needs assessments and collaborative work plans to help determine the needs, interests, and goals of each residentWork with residents and their previous case managers and other collateral supports (if applicable) to develop suggested individual service plans to meet initial and intermediate goals toward establishing and maintaining successful transitions to independence and stabilizationBe available (with emergency backup) to the assigned residents for any needs ranging from crisis resolution to daily life skills management helpBe available for evening and weekend shifts with advance notice. Connect young people with any services/support that they might need and serve as liaison to those resourcesMotivate each young person to strive for independence through the completion of all educational/career/mental healthcare goalsComplete all reporting requirementsEscort tenants to appointmentsFacilitate groups and workshopsDemonstrate ability to work effectively and creatively as part of an interdisciplinary treatment teamRepresenting The Door at outside events and functionsPerform other duties as defined by Assistant Program DirectorQualifications:Bachelor’s degree required, master's in social work or related field preferredMinimum of 3 years of experience in case management with adolescents, utilizing positive youth development and harm reduction principles, including working with diverse at-risk youth populations such as LGBTQ, homeless and mentally illKnowledge of and ability to apply positive youth development principles to working with young peoplePrior supportive housing experience and working with youth with significant mental illness, is strongly preferredKnowledge of social service systems and resources as they relate to The Door’s urban youth populationExcellent oral and written communication skillsDemonstrated ability in developing innovative adolescent treatment modalities and group facilitation skillsProficiency in Spanish, French, or Mandarin preferredHours: 35 hours per week; may include evenings and/or weekends with advance noticeAnnual salary: $50,000-55,000Multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
