Job summary

Los Alamos Wellness & Rehabilitation in Los Alamos, NM is seeking a friendly Activities Director to bring compassion and smiles to residents.

You will design and implement activity programs that meet social, spiritual, intellectual, emotional, educational and physical needs, aligning with resident care plans.

This role requires certification as an Activity Director, a bachelor’s degree in recreation therapy or related field, and prior long-term care experience.

Qualifications

• Accreditation as a Certified Activity Director; completion of a state approved Activity Director training course.
• Bachelor’s degree in recreation therapy or related area; licensed or registered nationally or by the State.
• One-year experience as an Activity Director in long term care.
• Two years of experience conducting social/recreational programs in the past five years, one full-time in a health care setting.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements comprehensive therapeutic recreation programs and services to meet psycho-social, physical, and cognitive needs of residents.
• Performs assessing, selecting, organizing and implementing recreational services to meet individualized resident needs and interests.
• Develops and delivers activity/recreational programming to promote engagement in normal life enhancement pursuits and maintain functioning.
• Completes the MDS activity section and participates in Resident Care Plan Meetings; documents progress per center policy.
• Conducts admissions interviews, documents activities, and writes CAA and care plans.
• Completes a monthly calendar of activity programs and posts it in the center.
• Identifies activity preferences and current pursuits; documents findings including sources.
• Monitors resident attendance and participation; identifies risk factors or changes in condition.
• Plans community activities involving community, staff, families and residents.
• Coordinates an effective Volunteer Program and supports resident self-determination.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in recreation therapy or related area

Accreditation as a Certified Activity Director; state approved Activity Director training
