Job summary

Sherman Associates is seeking a Leasing Specialist I to support leasing, marketing, and compliance for a portfolio including 55+ housing. The role emphasizes strong customer service, community relations, and knowledge of fair housing in Des Moines, IA.

Responsibilities include showing units, screening applicants, processing applications, and maintaining accurate files. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM, with potential overtime; it requires a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills; ability to communicate effectively with tenants and vendors.
• Knowledge of property management software (Real Page, Yardi, Lead2Lease, OneSite).
• High school diploma or GED; relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Leases, markets, and ensures compliance for an assigned portfolio.
• Responds to inquiries by calls and internet leads within 24 hours.
• Makes appointments, shows apartments, screens applicants, and verifies applications.
• Contacts and offers units to approved applicants and conducts move-in orientations.
• Maintains property files, inputs traffic and applications, and meets occupancy targets.
• Performs background checks and notifies approval/denial per results.
• Coordinates with corporate staff on procedures and ensures privacy and compliance.
