Job summary

UNICO Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Resident Engineer to drive the successful delivery of transportation construction projects in Northern California.

The role acts as the owner’s representative, chairs client and contractor meetings, and ensures plans and specifications are followed with thorough documentation and QA. You will oversee field inspection, lead inspection teams, and provide technical guidance while maintaining cost and schedule controls.

Qualifications

• BS in Construction Management, Civil, or Structural Engineering or equivalent.
• Registered Professional Engineer in California.
• 10+ years of industry experience in related disciplines.
• 5 years managing construction projects or as a resident engineer for a public agency.

Responsibilities

• Represent owner's interests and attend client and contractor meetings.
• Review plans and specifications and ensure compliance.
• Provide project documentation including letters, RFIs, submittal responses, change orders, etc.
• Oversee field inspection and supervise project inspection teams.
• Provide technical guidance and maintain cost and schedule controls.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, and regulators.

Responsibilities:

The Resident Engineer will be responsible for successful completion of construction projects. Specific responsibilities include being an owner’s representative, attending and running client and contractor meetings, reviewing plans and specifications and ensuring compliance with documents, providing project documentation in the form of letters, RFI/Submittal responses, change orders, etc., overseeing field inspection, supervising project inspection teams, and providing technical guidance and quality assurance, maintaining project controls including cost and schedule management. Must have experience working in a team environment, and have the ability to direct and supervise field construction activities and staff, office engineering, inspection, materials testing, field contract administration, and to act as liaison with clients/owners, consultants, contractors, design professionals, public involvement and regulatory agencies.

Ideal Candidate:

• Experience leading local, state and federally funded transportation contracts for projects located in Northern California.
• 8+ years relevant industry experience, familiar with transportation, transit or operational facilities type projects.
• Types of infrastructure projects include civil improvements, structural facilities, electrical and mechanical systems, underground utilities, earthwork, TOD, etc.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.

• 10+ years of industry experience in a related discipline (as a design engineer, field engineer, construction engineer, project engineer, engineering manager, or military construction engineer)
• 5 years managing construction projects or working as a resident engineer for a public agency
• Possess a valid driver's license and clear DMV record
• Must have the ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check

Qualifications:

• BS in Construction Management, Civil, or Structural Engineering plus two (2) years of relevant construction experience, OR
• Eight (8) years of relevant Construction Engineering experience
