Job summary

Horrocks is seeking a Resident Engineer in Reno, NV to take ownership of highway and road projects from start to finish. You will oversee design interpretation, manage field changes, and coordinate with contractors and clients to ensure schedule and budget adherence.

The ideal candidate will hold a Civil Engineering degree, be an EIT with Nevada PE preferred, and possess strong communication and organizational skills. Onsite work, MSHA training, and exposure to AASHTO criteria are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Licensed EIT required; Nevada PE license preferred.
• MSHA training required; company will train.
• Experience on multidisciplinary project teams.
• Solid knowledge of AASHTO roadway design criteria.
• Proficiency with Autodesk or Bentley software.
• Drainage or traffic engineering experience preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Self-motivated with strong organization and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and read design/specifications for highways, freeways, interchanges, streets, intersections, and multi-use trails.
• Oversee roadway construction projects; coordinate with contractors on design issues, field changes, pay apps, RFIs, schedules, and submittals.
• Collaborate with project managers on client relations, stakeholder coordination, and sub-consultant management.
• Take ownership of projects from start to finish, focusing on quality, budget, and schedule.
• Interface with coworkers to achieve shared success.
• Be available to work onsite days, nights, and weekends as projects require.
• Obtain certifications related to construction engineering management.
• Monitor construction contracts and manage personnel and budget.

Compensation: $135,000 - $175,000 / year

What are the core responsibilities for the role?

• Interpret and be able to read and understand design and specifications of aspects related to highways, freeways, interchanges, streets, intersections, and multi-use trails
• Oversee and lead roadway construction projects and perform various tasks associated with construction management Including working with contractors to identify design issues, field design changes, verify measurements of quantities and pay applications, RFIs, project schedule, review and accept submittals for material certifications. Also includes working closely with field inspectors to ensure successful project delivery.
• Work with project managers on client relations, stakeholder coordination, and sub-consultant management
• Take ownership of projects from start to finish, with attention to quality, budget, and schedule
• Interface with coworkers to achieve shared success
• Availability to work onsite days, nights and weekends while projects are ongoing
• Obtain certifications related to construction engineering management
• Monitoring construction contracts
• Managing personnel and budget

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
• Licensed EIT required; Nevada PE License preferred
• MSHA training is required; Horrocks will train candidates that meet qualifications
• Experience working on multidisciplinary project teams
• Solid background in AASHTO roadway geometric design criteria
• Proficiency using Autodesk and/or Bentley civil design software preferred
• Drainage design and/or traffic engineering experience is preferred
• Solid written and oral communication skills
• Self‑motivated, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Proficiency with MS Office applications
• A desire to grow personally and professionally with each project assignment
