Job summary

Pendleton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Mystic, CT is seeking a dependable Cook to join our Dietary Team on a part-time / per diem basis.

You will prepare nutritious meals, follow recipes and dietary needs, and maintain safety and sanitation standards to provide residents with high-quality dining experiences. Prior skilled nursing facility cooking experience is preferred; culinary training is a plus.

Qualifications

• Previous cooking experience required; experience in a skilled nursing facility, healthcare setting, assisted living community, or institutional kitchen is preferred.
• Culinary training or certification is a plus.
• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling practices.
• Ability to prepare meals for large groups while maintaining quality and consistency.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Dependable, punctual, and committed to providing quality service.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook nutritious meals according to established menus and resident dietary needs.
• Follow recipes, portion guidelines, and modified diet requirements.
• Ensure meals are prepared and served on time while maintaining quality, consistency, and presentation.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including ovens, grills, mixers, slicers, and other food prep equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen in accordance with food safety standards.
• Follow all applicable federal, state, and local food service regulations and facility policies.
• Assist with food preparation, inventory, storage, and proper food handling procedures.
• Work collaboratively with Dietary staff and other departments to provide an excellent dining experience.
• Help create a welcoming, respectful, and positive environment for our residents.
