ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as designer for assigned area on productions: Scenic, Lighting, Costumes, Projections.
- Produce design renderings, ground plans, plots, templates, drafting, elevations, etc.
- Assist other departments as necessary: lighting, paint, scenic, props, costumes.
- Remain abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, and services, and leading industry performance benchmarks.
- Collaborate as a member of the creative and production teams.
- Strictly adhere to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
- Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and mission—Training Champions for Christ.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
- Bachelor’s (BA/BFA) in theater design with 6 years of experience required; MFA preferred.
- Professional experience in at least two of the four following areas: Scenic, Lighting, Costumes, Projections.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to complete designs on time and in full, with minimal supervision.
- Strong drafting, rendering, and design material creation skills.
- Proficiency with Vectorworks, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Procreate, and/or other design software programs.
- Strong analytical, computer, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle multiple design assignments throughout the year with a fast turn‑around.
- Robust portfolio demonstrating creativity and skill in design materials.
ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES
- Clear verbal and written communication in English.
- Professional public‑communication skills representing Liberty University.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Advanced computer skills.
- Problem‑solving: intuitive reasoning, analysis, and judgment for routine and complex issues.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY ABILITIES
- May be required to travel to local and campus sites.
- Perform desk work, type on a keyboard, and sit for extended periods.
- Read and speak effectively; use hearing and speaking in daily communications.
- Move about the campus: stand, walk, climb stairs, carry materials, and reach overhead.
- Lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to work nights and weekends.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Climate‑controlled indoor environment; well lit; moderate noise level.
- Productions may involve loud noise; occasional outdoor event facilitation.
DRIVING REQUIREMENTS
- Personal vehicle (or LU vehicle) travel may be required.
- Valid driver’s license, clean DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance required.
