Job summary

Weston & Sampson is seeking Engineers/Construction Inspectors to support horizontal construction projects across the Capital District and Hudson Valley, New York. The role involves field inspections of roadway resurfacing, utilities improvements, and related infrastructure, with occasional travel and coordination with project teams.

Candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field, NICET II certification, and experience with erosion controls, AutoCAD or GIS,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction, or related field.
• Two or more years of experience with resident engineering services, underground construction, or related work a plus.
• NICET Level II certification from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies.
• Experience with erosion and sediment controls a plus.
• Survey and design engineering experience is a plus.
• AutoCAD and GIS experience is a plus.
• Experience with general construction inspection policies, procedures and administrative requirements.
• Working knowledge and experience with interpreting contract documents, including compliance with prevailing safety regulations.
• Excellent public relations, written and verbal communication skills and organizational/time management skills.
• Prepare and maintain electronic field records efficiently and accurately.
• Ability to work well with contractors, engineers, and clients.
• Valid driver’s license and able to provide own reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with client, contract administration and reporting, and close coordination with engineers.
• Provide a flexible working schedule as project needs arise.
• Review contract documents, permits and construction management requirements to identify and report degree of Contractor's compliance.
• Review and evaluate Contractor’s work schedules and updates with the Project Manager.
• Attend pre-construction meetings; check compliance of shop drawings and construction modifications; measure quantities; observe quality; prepare daily records; report problems and failures to comply with contract documents.
• Maintain, liaison and attend regular site meetings to anticipate construction work, potential problems, progress, and conditions.
• Review monthly payment estimates; maintain construction punch lists; supervise subordinate staff and survey crew as appropriate.
• Some local and regional travel may be required.
• Obtain and maintain applicable certifications for erosion and sediment control inspections.

Job description

Weston & Sampson is currently seeking Engineers/Construction Inspectors to meet our current workload for horizontal construction projects at various locations in the Capital District and Hudson Valley, New York. The projects are expected to include field work including inspection of roadway reconstruction (including resurfacing, drainage, curbing, sidewalks, street lighting, etc.), utilities improvements (including water, sanitary sewer, stormwater, etc.) and utility infrastructure.

What You’ll Do

• The projects will require careful coordination with the client, contract administration and reporting, and close coordination with engineers working in support.
• The candidate needs to provide a flexible working schedule as project needs arise.
• Review contract documents, permits and construction management requirements to identify and report degree of Contractor's compliance.
• Review and evaluate Contractor’s work schedules and updates with the Project Manager.
• Attend pre-construction meetings; check compliance of shop drawings and other construction modifications; measure the quantities and observe quality of construction; prepare daily records of construction work; record and report problems and failures to comply with contract documents and construction management requirements.

Hourly Rate: $31.00-$38.00 depending on experience
