Job description

About the Role
More than a driver — a trusted companion on every trip.

Our residents depend on us not just to get them where they need to go, but to make the journey worthwhile. As a Resident Companion Driver, you'll be a familiar, friendly face — the person who helps a resident feel safe on the way to a doctor's appointment, and the one who makes sure everyone gets a scoop of their favorite flavor on the ice cream run.

This is a relationship-first role. The right person for this job genuinely enjoys spending time with people, has patience in abundance, and understands that how someone feels during a trip matters just as much as arriving on time.

Responsibilities
What your days will look like.
  • Safely transport residents to medical appointments, therapy sessions, errands, community events and personal outings in a facility vehicle
  • Plan and lead group outings — trips to the movies, shopping centers, restaurants, parks, ice cream shops, and community events
  • Assist residents with boarding and exiting the vehicle, including securing wheelchairs and mobility devices per WAV protocols
  • Offer friendly conversation and engagement throughout each trip; be a genuinely enjoyable presence
  • Communicate with facility staff about daily schedules, resident needs, and any observations from outings
  • Escort residents from the vehicle to building entrances and provide support throughout the visit
  • Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and basic upkeep of the facility vehicle; report any mechanical concerns promptly
  • Keep accurate trip logs including mileage, destinations, and departure and return times
  • Report any mechanical issues promptly to your supervisor
  • Notify supervisor immediately of any accidents, incidents, or unusual occurrences
Who We're Looking For
Character first. Skills second.

We can teach someone how we run routes. We can't teach someone to care. The qualities that matter most to us:

  • Genuinely Warm - You enjoy people's company and make them feel comfortable naturally.
  • Patient & Calm - You don't rush residents. You give each person the time and care they need.
  • Reliable - Residents count on you. Punctuality and consistency aren't optional.
  • Observant - You notice when something seems off and know to communicate it with staff.
  • Good Humored - A sense of humor goes a long way — residents appreciate someone who can share a laugh.
  • Respectful - You honor residents' dignity and independence in every interaction.
Qualifications
What you'll need to bring.
Required
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license (Class D)
  • Clean driving record for a minimum of three (3) years — MVR check required
  • CBRF caregiver certification courses (or willingness to obtain prior to first shift)
  • Ability to pass a Wisconsin DHS Caregiver Background Check
  • Experience or ability to operate wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAV) and properly secure mobility devices
  • Physical ability to assist residents with boarding, exiting, and mobility needs (lifting up to 50 lbs)
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor
Preferred
  • Prior experience transporting individuals in a residential care, healthcare, or social services setting
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities or elderly populations
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Familiarity with community resources and medical facilities in the Menomonie or Chippewa Falls area
Why This Role
The work is meaningful.

For many of our residents, an outing isn't just a trip — it's a highlight of their week. The chance to get outside, enjoy a change of scenery, or simply share a meal with someone who genuinely cares makes a real difference in their quality of life. You'll be part of making that happen every day.

This is a role where your personality is as valuable as your skills. If you've been looking for a position where the human connection is the point — not just a byproduct — this is it.
