Job summary

Gallatin Nursing & Rehab in is seeking a general support role to assist the Nursing Department with a variety of tasks designed to maintain resident comfort and safety. The position involves administrative support, daily rounding, escorting residents, responding to call bells, and maintaining clean, organized spaces.

Responsibilities include reporting changes in resident condition to the Nurse Supervisor, following safety procedures, and assisting with secretarial duties as requested.

Qualifications

• Must possess, as a minimum, an 8th grade education.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business materials.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Responsibilities

• Familiarize with the facility's administrative structure as introduced in orientation.
• Report to the charge nurse all accidents/incidents observed on the shift.
• Report all changes in the resident's condition to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse as soon as practical.
• Answer phone (especially during mealtimes).
• Assist with errands of residents/staff.
• Assist with secretarial tasks at the nursing station (making copies, filing, etc.).
• Straighten resident closets/drawers and label belongings.
• Maintain orderly/clean resident rooms and common areas.
• Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids.
• Ensure residents who are unable to call for help are checked frequently.
• Answer call bells promptly and report needs to CNA/Nurse.
• Make rounds assisting residents and ensuring accessibility of call bells.
• Turn medications over to Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
• Watch for and report changes in room conditions (temperature, ventilation, lighting).
• Transport residents to/from meals/activities/outdoors/etc.
• Provide residents with Reality Orientations as instructed.
• Pass linen, make unoccupied beds, prep beds with extra covers.
• Identify residents before serving meals using wristbands/photos.
• Clean and sanitize equipment and rooms as specified.
• Replace trash liners and store supplies properly.
• Inform Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse of changes for care plan updates.
• Pass snacks/trays and assist with food arrangement; NEVER FEED THE RESIDENTS.
• Assist residents with identifying food arrangements for trays.
• Serve between-meal snacks as instructed.
• Keep water pitchers clean and within reach; refill as needed.
• Collect and redistribute water pitchers for weekly cleaning by dietary.
• Check rooms for food items and proper storage.
• Understand code system for resident needs.
• Ensure rooms are ready for receiving residents.
• Greet residents and escort to rooms; introduce roommates as appropriate.
• Inventory and mark personal possessions as instructed.
• Store resident clothing; assist with packing when transferring or discharging.
• Transport residents to new rooms or receiving area.
• Perform tasks per policies and supervisor instructions.
• Follow work assignments and schedules.
• Cooperate with inter-departmental staff to maintain nursing services.
• Create warm, calm environment throughout unit and shift.
• Report defective equipment to Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
• Inform Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse of equipment and supply needs.
• Report hazardous exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and chemicals per policy.
• Maintain confidentiality of resident care information.
• Treat all residents with kindness, dignity, and respect.
• Knock before entering rooms.
• Report grievances and complaints to Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
• Report allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of property.
• Honor residents' refusals of assistance and report to supervisor.
• Attend and participate in scheduled training/orientation/OSHA and CDC in-service training.
• Wash hands before and after assisting residents.
• Keep the nurses' call system within reach of residents.
• Notify Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse of resident leaving/missing from facility.
• Follow safety precautions in all duties.
• Keep residents' possessions stored; keep floors dry and clean.
• Keep excess supplies off the floor; store properly.
• Wash wheels and other equipment as instructed.
• Disinfect and return all resident care equipment to storage after use.
• Store tools and equipment before breaks or at end of day.
• Report all hazardous conditions and safety violations promptly.
• Follow smoking regulations and report violations.
• Report communicable diseases to Director of Nursing/Infectious Control Coordinator.
• Report missing/illegible labels and MSDSs to supervisor.
• Use only trained equipment and operate it safely.
• Do not waste supplies.
