Job summary

Volunteers of America Upstate New York is seeking a part-time Resident Assistant to support residents in our continuum of services in Rochester, NY. You will help with intakes, rounds, and daily activities, while upholding safety and program rules.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, at least one year in human services or related field, strong interpersonal skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office; CPR/First Aid certification is required within two weeks of hire.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • One year previous experience in Human Service, Residential, Security or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Current Red Cross First Aid training certificate is required within the first two weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Complete Intakes and checkouts for residents entering or leaving the facility.
  • Document shift observations/activities in log procedures.
  • Maintain client census and database records with accuracy.
  • Work closely with residents to ensure effective communication with staff.
  • Promote safety, policies, and program rules for residents.
  • Provide crisis intervention and conflict management as needed.
  • Conduct hourly rounds, inspections and overnight checks when applicable.
  • Assist with laundry, room prep, and housekeeping duties as needed.
  • Report emergencies or incidents to supervisor per guidelines.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as assigned.
