Position Summary
- Builds and maintains an inclusive, welcoming floor/hall community consistent with the College's mission and values.
- Develops and maintains positive, professional relationships with residents, including regular one-on-one check-ins.
- Serves as the first point of contact and first responder for all resident emergencies, facility issues, and behavioral incidents occurring during assigned duty hours.
- Participates in a rotating on-call duty schedule, including evenings, weekends, and College holidays, providing walkthrough coverage of the assigned building/floor.
- Responds promptly to fire alarms, lock-outs, facilities emergencies, medical incidents, and mental health concerns; escalates to the Residence Hall Director, Campus Security, and/or emergency medical services as appropriate.
- Completes incident reports and documentation for all emergencies, policy violations, and unusual occurrences within 24 hours.
- Completes all mandated crisis-response and safety trainings.
- Enforces College housing policies, the Student Code of Conduct, and health/safety regulations consistently and equitably.
- Conducts and documents regular room/facility inspections and health and safety checks.
- Maintains accurate records, duty logs, occupancy rosters, and key/access inventories.
- Assists with hall opening, closing, and room condition/checkout processes each semester and academic break.
- Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX and the Clery Act; reports all disclosures of sexual misconduct, discrimination, or safety concerns to the designated Title IX Coordinator/Campus Security Authority.
- Plans and implements educational, cultural, and social programming each semester in line with departmental learning outcomes.
- Attends and actively participates in staff meetings, residential hall meetings, one-on-one supervision, and in-service training.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 21 years of age
- Prior experience as a Resident Assistant, Orientation Leader, peer mentor, or similar leadership role preferred.
Certificates, licenses, and registrations:
- Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification, or completion within 30 days of hire.
- Electronic Mail Software (Outlook)
- Spreadsheet Software (Excel)
Other skills required:
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, conflict-resolution, and crisis-response skills; availability to work evenings, weekends, and College holidays as required by the duty rotation.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Frequently required to stand.
- Frequently required to walk, including climbing stairs to respond to emergencies at any hour during assigned duty periods.

- Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions during building rounds and emergency response.
- While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, with occasional periods of loud noise during emergencies or after-hours activity.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
Key Performance Indicators:
KPIs include but are not limited to the following spread over four domains (Incident Documentation Timeliness, Duty Coverage & Response Compliance, Health & Safety Inspection Completion, and Programming & Reporting Deliverables):
- 100% of incident reports (emergencies, policy violations, unusual occurrences) submitted within 25 hours of occurrence, as required by the job description.
Duty Coverage & Response Compliance
- 100% attendance/coverage of assigned on-call duty shifts (evenings, weekends, holidays), with documented response to fire alarms, lock-outs, and facility/medical emergencies within an established response time (e.g., on-site within 10-15 minutes of notification during duty hours).
Health & Safety Inspection Completion
- 100% completion of scheduled room/facility health and safety inspections each semester, with documentation submitted to the Residence Hall Director on the required schedule.
- Minimum number of educational/social programs planned and implemented per semester (e.g., 2-3, aligned with departmental learning outcomes), plus on-time submission of monthly time & effort reports and KPI dashboard
Supervision and Accountability
This position is supervised and evaluated by the Vice President for Student Affairs. Administrative approvals for activity budgets, expenditures, and reporting are also subject to the authority of the Vice President for Student Affairs.
