Summary :

Under the supervision of the LPN, RN, or nurse leader and the Lead Resident Assistant, the Resident Assistant performs patient-centered, evidence-based nursing care activities to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of patients. Collaborating with the care team, they are responsible for patient outcomes that uphold ThedaCare’s high standards of quality care. They contribute to departmental goals by delivering compassionate, safe care and demonstrating a commitment to ongoing professional growth.

Job Description:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :

  • Medication Management: Prepares and administers prescribed medications as ordered by physicians. Must successfully complete medication management training, know all 5 rules of medication management, and recognize medication side effects to report to nurses.
  • Works independently and with the Lead Resident Assistant to ensure tasks are completed confidently, utilizing guidance and support to provide optimal resident care.
  • Performs delegated patient care activities using evidence-based practices and competencies specific to the patient population.
  • Assists in meeting patient care needs collaboratively to ensure quality, safe, and cost-effective practices.
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise in assigned areas, performing all Resident Assistant functions age-appropriately, developmentally, and culturally sensitive.
  • Addresses patient concerns respectfully, identifies opportunities to improve the care experience, streamline processes, and reduce costs.
  • Identifies and escalates patient risks to prevent crises, maintaining professional and therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and team members.
  • Reinforces patient education to improve outcomes and safety.
  • Performs and documents patient cares including hygiene, mobility, vital signs, and ensures a safe environment.
  • Provides care such as collecting specimens, administering medications, and assisting with daily activities as per care plans and physician orders within scope.
  • Checks vital signs, height, and weight as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  • Previous healthcare experience preferred but not mandatory.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) preferred but not required.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required.
  • Completion of CBRF Resident Assistant certification classes within 90 days of hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

  • Ability to move freely and lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and need for manual dexterity.

WORK ENVIRONMENT :

  • Frequent exposure to sharp objects, chemicals, and potential communicable diseases.
  • Standing, walking, transferring patients, and occasional contact with aggressive patients.

Position requires compliance with department-specific competencies.

Shift: Night, 10:00 pm - 6:15 am, every other weekend
