Position Overview

The Resident Advisor/Outreach Coordinator is a pivotal position within the Revolution Hawaii program, designed to facilitate street-level outreach and ministry and providing guidance, support, and oversight for students as they navigate daily routines and community living. The role exists to connect with community organizations, mentor team members, and coordinate field training experiences that align with the mission of The Salvation Army and Camp Homelani. By focusing on direct engagement with vulnerable populations, including at-risk youth, the homeless, and those struggling with addiction, this position ensures that team members are trained in practical, compassionate ministry.

The Resident Advisor/Outreach Coordinator is responsible for building and sustaining relationships with local community groups and organizations to expand outreach efforts, organizing and leading mission activities in urban settings, including beach outreach, ministry to homeless populations, and children’s programs, providing guidance and supervision to team members during their field training, ensuring their experiences are meaningful and mission-driven.

They are also responsible for assisting the Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director in managing various mission stations such as the Kaneohe Corps, Kauluwela Mission Corps, The Kroc Center and the Upper Room ministry, while also contributing to the teaching and training efforts within the Revolution Hawaii Program.

Essential Qualifications
  • Must have at least 3 years of Urban or World Mission experience or be a graduate of Revolution Hawaii.
  • Broad knowledge and experience with Salvation Army beliefs, practices, and programs.
  • Previous experience in youth work, especially within The Salvation Army, including working at the street level with the homeless.
  • Experience in working with community groups.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Experience in providing leadership in the scope of team ministry.
  • Experience in leading people and the ability to work well with campus staff, the public, and children that we serve.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Connect and build relationships with community groups and organizations by networking with local corps, churches, nonprofits, and other organizations to build partnerships that benefit the camp’s mission. This requires attending community meetings, reaching out to potential partners via email or phone, visiting local groups to discuss collaborations and coordinating joint outreach projects.
  • Organize, coordinate and lead street level outreach mission and ministry by directly engaging with people in the community who may need support, including handing out food and supplies, organizing prayer walks, building relationships with the homeless community and at-risk youth, and putting together other outreach activities. This involves planning outreach schedules, leading the Revolution Hawaii team and other volunteers in service projects, distributing resources like food, clothing, toiletries, etc. and offering prayer and/or support to those in need.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of mission opportunities
  • Supervise or provide oversight to team members in their various selected mission stations. This involves managing and guiding team members who are assigned to different outreach locations. This requires checking in with team members about their progress, providing guidance on challenges they may face, ensuring each outreach mission location is functioning effectively and helping to work out any problems that may arise and reporting any issues with the Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director
  • Assist with records and reporting, as related to outreach.
  • Participate as a team leader of a ministry team as assigned by the Directors.
  • Participate as a part of the Revolution Hawaii leadership team and model Christian ethics.
  • Participate in staff meetings.
  • Teach and mentor members of the Revolution Hawaii program including preparing and delivering lessons, meeting with team members for one-on-one mentorship and helping facilitate group discussions and spiritual growth.
  • Assist in the development of curriculum
  • Provide leadership and support to the local corps/church communities by attending and assisting in church services or events, leading worship, preaching, running the church service in the absence of the regular leader, running prayer meetings and Bible studies, helping set up, take down and clean up the facility, offer support to church members as well as helping organize and utilize the Revolution Hawaii team to participate in all of these things.
  • Develop and implement informal worship and prayer opportunities.
  • Coordinate all transportation, drivers, etc., in conjunction with field training experience.
  • Transport Revolution Hawaii Team members for activities ensuring proper maintenance and care of the vehicle used for transport
  • Assist in recruitment as assigned by directors.
  • Conduct interviews with potential delegates as assigned by Directors
  • Assist in seminars, retreats and conferences as assigned.
  • Participate in further training as agreed upon with Directors.
  • Monitor and assist in coordination of calendars for directors and overall program
  • Prepare reports as required
  • Assist directors in the preparation and annual update of Revolution Hawaii handbook.
  • Assist in preparation of program materials.
  • May be asked to participate in other ministry aspects.
  • Adhere to all Salvation Army, American Camp Association (ACA), and governmental guidelines and requirements.
  • Responsible for being the house supervisor for male delegates overseeing the living space for male program participants, ensuring a safe and supportive environment including checking in with male students to address concerns, enforcing Revolution Hawaii rules and providing emotional and spiritual support.
  • Responsible for leading a spiritual formation group: A small group focused on spiritual growth and faith development. This requires leading discussions on faith topics, praying with and mentoring group members and planning and facilitating group activities.
  • Enforce camp policies and procedures including neighborhood curfews for light, fire and sound.
