Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, development, organization, and implementation of all residence activities.
  • Develop suggestions and ideas for improving and expanding the Activities Program.
  • Maintain a professional, warm, and caring relationship with residents and families.
  • Assist in arranging transportation and escorts for residents to and from outside and community activities.
  • Assist with maintaining and expanding Volunteer Programs.
  • Assist residents with maintaining and operating the residence store.
  • Assist with maintaining adequate supplies per department budget.
  • Assist residents to and from activities.
  • Assist with the monthly newsletter and/or weekly calendar.
  • Attend required ongoing in-service training sessions and orientation.
  • Drive residents in van as needed.
  • Perform dual tasks and work independently.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications:

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Ability to assist in the development and implementation of activities.
    • Ability to create interest and motivate residents to participate daily.
    • Creativity and motivational skills.
    • Effective communication in English, both orally and in writing.
    • Physical ability to perform tasks involving bending, stretching, stooping, and lifting.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Computer literacy, including office software such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, and calendar/newsletter software.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in recreational therapy or related fields preferred; gerontology experience preferred.
  • Certificates/Licenses: Valid driver's license in the state of work with no more than two moving violations in three years.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Finger and hand dexterity.
    • Visual and auditory acuity.
    • Ability to lift at least 15 lbs.
    • Ability to push/pull carts, walk, sit, and stand.
    • Ability to turn, crouch, kneel, stoop, bend, and reach as needed.
