JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Residence Life Office at the Behrend campus is looking for a dynamic and energetic individual to join the team. The Live-On Coordinator is a vital part of the team in helping to continue the vision and mission of the department. They are responsible to an Assistant Director for supervising a staff of up to 16 Resident Assistants, as well as overseeing the daily activities of buildings housing up to 500 students. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Supervision:
  1. Supervises Resident Assistants
  2. Conducts regular individual and group supervision meetings
  3. Evaluates Resident Assistant's performance
  4. Provides support and training for Resident Assistants
Student Development and Residence Education:
  1. Assists with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a residence education program for the area
  2. Assists with the development and implementation of campus-wide initiatives
  3. Advises student groups in the area
  4. Makes referrals to University agencies when appropriate
  5. Encourages student involvement in residential and University engagement opportunities
  6. Promotes area government
  7. Advocates for students by communicating their concerns and issues to the appropriate agency
  8. Advises individual students with academic, career, and personal concerns
  9. Interprets and enforces University and residence hall policies and procedures
  10. Mediates conflicts between and among students
  11. Conducts meetings with students related to the student code of conduct
Administration:
  1. Assists with the daily operation and organization of the area and the area office
  2. Handles requests for room changes and contract releases
  3. Assists in promoting the safety and security of area residents
  4. Assists in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with Housing and Food Services, Safety and Security, New Student Programs, etc.
  5. Provides on-call duty coverage over breaks on a rotating basis, including Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break
Community Development:
  1. Demonstrates a commitment to students and the quality of their life in the residence hall environment
  2. Encourages Resident Assistants to become well-acquainted with students in the area
  3. Assists the Resident Assistants in developing and promoting a positive living environment
  4. Demonstrates a commitment to diversity and social justice issues
  5. Plans and implements programs in conjunction with Resident Assistants and students
  6. Demonstrates a commitment to staff and student retention and recruitment efforts, particularly as they impact members of underrepresented groups
Miscellaneous:
  1. Participates in committees and task force groups
  2. Assists in the recruitment and training of professional staff
  3. Assists in the development and implementation of goals for the area and the residence hall system
  4. Performs other duties as assigned

This position would work in various residence hall settings and/or in an apartment setting with undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds. Summer responsibilities include either New Student Orientation, Housing Operations, Conferences, Assignments, Desk Operations, or Summer School. New Student Orientation and Conferences staff also report to an Assistant Director of Housing/senior coordinator for assisting with Summer Conferences and Institutes. Summer responsibilities could include interviewing, hiring, and training summer staff to assist conference guests or summer school; supervising student employees and making disciplinary recommendations, as needed; scheduling duty as needed to cover various campus residence halls; being present to assist with general questions and issues that might arise; respond to behavioral and maintenance issues/emergencies; resolve issues or contact appropriate staff or University offices as needed; attend meetings with conference planners, customers, and other University departments as requested.

This position will be filled as a Residential Education Specialist Professional or Intermediate Professional depending on the final applicant’s experience and education. The Residential Education Specialist Professional requires a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree. Additional education and/or experience are required for higher-level positions.

Should possess thorough understanding of the role and purpose of residence hall living as it applies to student development. This is a live-in 91.7 FTE position with mid-June to mid-July off. Full Penn State benefits are included.

This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is: $42,100.00 - $67,300.00
