Job summary

The Bridge in New York City seeks a Residence Counselor to provide front desk coverage and direct client assistance. You will work with formerly homeless adults facing mental illness and substance use challenges, under supervision of the Program Director/Manager.

Responsibilities include ADL training, safety monitoring, and facilitating transport to appointments. This role supports housing stability and client well-being across multiple program sites.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in residential housing or support services is preferred.
  • Ability to work with mentally ill adults and individuals with substance use disorder.
  • Willingness to work 35 hours per week with flexible schedules.

  • Performs restorative services and ADL training with clients.
  • Control movement in and out of the front door, answer calls, and maintain a visitor logbook.
  • Monitor safety and security of the building via cameras.
  • Escort clients to appointments using public transportation.
  • Motivate clients to develop skills to maintain housing.
  • Complete incident reports and assist with audits as required.

Hours: 35 hours per week, variable schedules, Full-time, Part Time and Per-Diem

Pay: minimum wage - $17.31 per Hr

Scope of Position:

Under the direction of the Program Director/Program Manager, provide coverage at the front desk and direct assistance to clients/residents within the program. Clients residing in programs are formerly homeless adults diagnosed with a serious mental illness and/or substance use disorder.

Residence Counselor Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs restorative services and ADL training with clients
  • Control movement in and out of the front door, answer incoming phone calls, and maintain a visitor logbook.
  • Perform rounds and monitor the safety and security of the building via cameras.
  • Escorts clients to outside appointments throughout the community utilizing public transportation.
  • Motivate clients to develop skills needed to maintain housing.
  • Assist and encourage individuals to develop natural support.
  • Timely completion of required documentation for every client contact as per agency policy.
  • Facilitate groups if requested.
  • Assist in preparing the program for audits
  • Provide crisis intervention, as necessary.
  • Medication monitoring and inventory.
  • Ability to work with consumers/residents, families, and staff in a caring and respectful manner, and with due understanding of and consideration for cultural differences.
  • Conduct apartment inspections on multiple floors, utilizing stairs.
  • Complete incident reports, perform diligent searches, and file missing person reports on clients not accounted for in accordance with policy and procedure. Prioritize the safety of all residents and staff.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned, including the potential of supporting other programs within the agency portfolio.
