Job description

Our client is hiring a Residential Counselor in New York, NY, to support adults with mental health needs in a transitional community residence. You will assess resident needs, develop service plans, and connect individuals with essential resources. In this role, you’ll provide counseling, skill-building, and daily living support to help residents achieve independent living and permanent housing while ensuring compliance with program standards and collaborating with a dedicated care team.

Responsibilities as the Residential Counselor
  • Service Planning: Coordinate individualized service plans to meet resident needs and goals.
  • Counseling & Support: Provide guidance in psycho-education, medication management, and daily living skills.
  • Program Compliance: Ensure services and documentation meet NYS OMH 595 and Medicaid standards.
  • Admissions & Documentation: Assist with resident intake, maintain accurate progress notes, and support Medicaid billing.
  • Crisis Intervention: Partner with mental health and substance abuse providers to manage crises effectively.
Qualifications for the Residential Counselor
  • Education: Associate degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
  • Experience: 3+ years in human services required, with prior experience in mental health settings strongly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in computer literacy and documentation systems.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiar with NYS OMH, DOHMH, and HUD systems and regulations.
