Job description

Mitsui E&P USA (MEPUSA) is seeking an engineer to join our company as the Reservoir Engineer. This position will play a critical role in overseeing and guiding reservoir engineering projects. MEPUSA has a small office, start‑up culture where individuals get exposure to all facets of the business and is backed by the financial strength and balance sheet of a global, diverse trading house company with over 150 years of history. MEPUSA’s areas of responsibility cover North and South America, onshore and offshore, conventional and unconventional, conventional hydrocarbon energy and emerging CCUS transition technologies.

The office is located in the Houston Galleria area and offers a two‑day remote / three‑day in‑office work schedule with generous benefits and competitive pay.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide Reservoir Engineering support for operated and non-operated assets as well as business development opportunities.
  • Lead technical studies for the subsurface team such as type curve updates, well spacing and completion design optimization, parent / child impact, evaluating secondary benches, flowback management, refracs, and data gathering programs as needed.
  • Build and optimize long‑term field development plans including remaining well inventory, upside resource estimates, and total asset value. Responsible for year‑end and quarterly reserve updates.
  • Evaluate well proposals and support BD efforts including setting performance expectations, estimating project economics, and creating documentation for management approval.
  • Responsible for providing management with operational updates including development activity, expense tracking, well performance, and type curve compliance. Create fit for purpose tools and reports to communicate this information across disciplines.
  • Identify ways to improve subsurface data management, internal workflows, and processes in order to eliminate redundancy, improve efficiency, and increase value.
  • Support quarterly planning cycle requests for updated production forecasts along with the associated capital and expense outlook.
  • Build credible and productive relationships with non‑op partners through technical meetings, knowledge shares, and development planning activities.
  • Analyze competitor data, development strategies, and industry trends to assist with identifying opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Direct working experience in multiple onshore unconventional plays with an in‑depth knowledge of reservoir engineering theory and its application.
  • Strong background in field development planning and optimization to increase asset value. Must be self‑motivated and able to get into the weeds of doing the work.
  • Ability to use common industry software (such as Whitson, Aries, Spotfire, etc) and, as needed, create fit for purpose tools using MS Excel and Access.
  • Ability to model project and single well economics including sensitivities on price, capital, and production. Understand the concepts of optimization and value.
  • Strong understanding of production forecasting, reserves estimation, economic evaluation, and field development planning.
  • Ability to influence others through solid technical work, relationships, etc rather than from a position of authority.
  • Background in, or a willingness to learn, process mapping and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas in simple, concise terms to non‑technical staff.
  • Must be a team player and have a willingness to mentor less experienced staff including engineering techs and other disciplines.
  • Broad industry knowledge, and perhaps some direct work experience, on EOR projects, offshore development, CCUs, or emerging plays.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in engineering roles within the oil and gas industry.
  • Strong knowledge of reservoir management, modeling, and simulation.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills.
  • Exposure to exploration, appraisal, and development projects in various US onshore basins.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering from an accredited university.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS
  • None required.
