Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Med - Infectious Diseases , is in search of a dedicated Researcher Lead to oversee projects within the laboratory and to assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of lab activities, including maintenance of safety compliance, protocol development, and lab supply inventory. To collect, enter, summarize, analyze and interpret data. To contribute significantly to the planning/design of studies and to help develop long or short-term goals. Other duties include acquisition of extramural funding leading to expansion of laboratory operations and implementation of inventory and data collection tools for research protocols. Pending securing of future funding, this position may share supervisory roles in conjunction with PI over research technicians in the lab.
As a Researcher Lead, this emerging leader role will require you to spearhead major research projects and lead a team of researchers towards achieving significant scientific goals. Your responsibilities will include strategic planning, project management, and ensuring the alignment of research activities with organizational objectives. You will play a critical role in mentoring junior researchers, fostering a collaborative research environment, and representing the research team at national and international forums. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Oversee projects within the laboratory and assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of lab activities. This includes making sure all lab members with training and performance are compliant with local regulations, preparing lab for inspections, and maintenance of electronic databases.
Supervision and ordering of lab supply and equipment, in close coordination with lab administrative specialist.
Perform research protocols under direction of lab PI. This will include bench-based protocols and clinical coordinator tasks, as needed.
Collects, prepares, analyzes, logs and compiles research data obtained.
Monitors results, detects and reports unusual outcomes, develops modifications and provides data to management.
Uses advanced knowledge of lab practices to direct and teach others, including protocol execution, safety training and compliance.

Master's degree in a related field and one (1) years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in related field and three (3) years of related experience OR Associate's degree in related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
