JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Women's Health and Exercise Laboratory (WHEL), within the Department of Kinesiology, is seeking a Research Technologist - Medical Sciences. The lab explores the physiological links between human metabolism, reproductive function, and bone physiology, especially under stressors like exercise and caloric restriction. Our research also investigates how whole foods can reduce bone loss in peri- and postmenopausal women. The role involves working with both female and male human research participants, under the supervision of Professors Mary Jane De Souza and Nancy Williams.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform enzyme immunoassays (ELISAs), radioimmunoassays, and chemiluminescent assays; troubleshoot and modify procedures; maintain quality control.
  • Manage biological samples (urine, blood, saliva, fecal, hair); perform semen analyses; monitor storage conditions.
  • Maintain health and safety records; assist with training and certifications; manage IRB and IBC applications; ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Order and inventory laboratory supplies; coordinate with administrative staff on purchases; liaise with vendors.
  • Manage and analyze data; prepare graphs; assist with publications, presentations, grants, and reports.
  • Supervise and train undergraduate and graduate students; ensure proper lab techniques and record-keeping.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and technical support.

Education and Experience:

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's Degree (Master's preferred) and at least one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination. Higher levels require additional education/experience. Candidates should have strong organizational, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and SPSS. Experience in human clinical research and wet lab techniques is preferred. Ability to work with human biological samples is essential. The position is primarily on-site, with limited remote work opportunities.
