Job summary

Northwestern University's MED-Cell & Developmental Biology department seeks a Laboratory Technician to support research projects in Chicago. You will perform molecular biology, cellular biology, histology, immunology and animal studies, and help ensure accurate data collection.

Responsibilities include DNA/RNA/protein isolation, PCR, cloning, cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISA, tissue processing and inventory management.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent with some basic science coursework is required.

Responsibilities

  • Molecular biology tasks: DNA/RNA/protein isolation, purification, expression, blotting.
  • PCR and RT-PCR; plasmid preparation; cloning, mapping, sequencing.
  • Recombinant virus production and purification.
  • Cell culture, cell isolation, functional studies, transfection.
  • Histology: tissue fixation/processing, embedding, sectioning, staining.
  • Immunology: flow cytometry; ELISA/Elispot; cytokine assays; antibody production.
  • Animal work: husbandry, breeding, dissections, blood collection, surgical procedures; data entry and records.
  • Data entry and lab records; inventory of reagents and mice.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Target hiring range for this position will be between $17.25-$22.09 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Conducts tests and procedures; sets up and operates equipment; records observations and measurements and collects and compiles data in a research lab; requires a practical understanding of a limited number of standard scientific techniques.
