Job summary

NYU Langone Health's Sippy Lab in the Neuroscience Institute seeks a Research Technician to support laboratory operations and grant administration while ensuring compliance.

Responsibilities

• Laboratory Operations and Research Support: Perform and assist with histology, animal injections, tissue imaging, viral vector handling, and related techniques; maintain lab organization, inventories, and training; ensure laboratory readiness.
• Mouse Colony Management: Oversee breeding, genotyping, colony planning, census management, animal allocations, colony records; coordinate transfers and euthanasia requests.
• Regulatory Compliance and Animal Research Oversight: Manage compliance with IACUC, IBC, EHS, prepare protocol submissions and inspections; conduct audits.
• Controlled Substance Management: Manage Schedule I–III programs with licensing, inventory, audits, and regulatory compliance with DEA/NYS BNE requirements.
• Finance and Grant Administration: Manage purchasing, vendor onboarding, reimbursements, budgets; coordinate transfer agreements and grant administration support.
• Administrative Duties: Assist with grant applications, reports, proofreading, PI calendar, and onboarding of new personnel.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Technician. The Sippy Lab at NYU Grossman School of Medicines Neuroscience Institute studies how sensory representations are translated into action. We focus our work on the basal ganglia and relevant input and output structures and aim to understand how sensory representations change when they become associated with goal directed movements and aim to translate our findings to models of psychiatric disease including depression, psychosis and addiction. We utilize calcium imaging (one- and two-photon imaging), and electrophysiological in vivo and in vitro techniques.

Under general supervision, performs advanced laboratory, administrative, financial, and regulatory duties in support of an active neuroscience research laboratory. Independently manages laboratory operations, research compliance, animal colony management, and administrative functions while assisting with experimental procedures and providing operational support to laboratory personnel.

Job Responsibilities:

Laboratory Operations and Research Support Perform and assist with laboratory procedures including histology, animal injections, tissue imaging, viral vector handling, and related experimental techniques. Maintain laboratory organization, equipment, inventories, supply procurement, and technical training of laboratory personnel. Coordinate equipment maintenance and ensure laboratory readiness for research activities. Mouse Colony Management Oversee breeding, genotyping, colony planning, census management, animal allocations, and colony records. Coordinate animal transfers, euthanasia requests, and colony health to support experimental needs. Regulatory Compliance and Animal Research Oversight Manage laboratory compliance with IACUC, IBC, EHS, and related institutional, federal, and state requirements. Prepare protocol submissions, amendments, renewals, inspections, and accreditation documentation. Monitors laboratory-wide animal records and conducts periodic compliance reviews and audits. Controlled Substance Management Manage Schedule I, II, and III controlled substance programs, including licensing, purchasing, inventory, audits, storage, recordkeeping, and regulatory compliance with DEA and New York State Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement (NYS BNE) requirements. Finance and Grant Administration Manage purchasing, vendor onboarding, procurement card reconciliations, reimbursements, expense tracking, and budget monitoring. Coordinate material transfer agreements, service contracts, grant administration support, onboarding of laboratory personnel, and Principal Investigator scheduling and laboratory communications. Administrative Duties Assist with grant applications, progress reports, administrative documentation, proofreading of scientific materials, and preparation of figures and supporting documents. Manage the Principal Investigator's calendar and coordinates meetings, seminars, and conference room scheduling. Organize and facilitates onboarding of new laboratory personnel, including training requirements, protocol additions, system access, communication platforms, and required institutional documentation.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with one year of experience. Advanced (beyond basic lab training will be accepted in lieu of experience as assessed by the hiring Principal Investigator). Effective oral and written communication skills required.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $55,649.99 - $61,215.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
