UT Southwestern Medical Center seeks a Research Technician II in the Department of Internal Medicine/Center for Hypothalamic Research. The role involves supporting experiments on how the brain regulates body weight and blood glucose, using whole-cell patch-clamp, immunohistochemistry, and functional imaging in mice.

Responsibilities include routine lab maintenance, breeding and genotyping mice, histology, physiology experiments, and assembling/operating lab equipment.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree or 2 years of college with relevant coursework.
• Experience: No experience required with Bachelor’s degree or 2 years laboratory experience.
• Laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with two years of college or 4 years of laboratory experience including two years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with High School Graduation or GED equivalent

• Performs routine scientific and medical research work in biology, chemistry, physics, or related field.
• Assembles and/or operates laboratory equipment and apparatus.
• Records research data per procedures and discusses results with supervisor.
• Assists in data collection for project reports.
• Reads literature and discusses new procedures with supervisor.
• May plan for and supervise laboratory personnel on a limited phase of research.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY

Works under minimal supervision to provide responsible technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to particular field of science. The Department of Internal Medicine/Center for Hypothalamic Research is recruiting for a Research Technician II position in Dr. Williams’ lab. We are looking for a candidate passionate about understanding how the brain controls body weight and blood glucose levels. This will be a fast‑paced opportunity to participate in cutting‑edge experiments studying mechanisms underlying changes in cellular/synaptic plasticity in mice, using whole cell patch‑clamp electrophysiology, immunohistochemistry, and functional imaging.

The job duties for this position include:

• Routine lab maintenance
• Perform mouse breeding, genotyping, histology and analytical assays
• Perform physiology experiments
• Electrophysiological recordings and in vivo imaging
• Assemble and operate various laboratory equipment and apparatus
• Performs other duties as assigned
