Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking personnel to provide technical assistance and perform routine laboratory experiments in support of ongoing research projects. Responsibilities include sample preparation, data collection, and maintaining accurate lab records while adhering to safety procedures.

The candidate will prepare reagents, maintain supplies, and collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflows and progress of the research program.

Qualifications

• Education requirements listed: bachelor’s degree or two years college with related coursework or high school diploma/GED.
• Experience requirements list minimal to none with Bachelor's degree or 2–4 years lab experience depending on level.
• Knowledge of routine lab safety procedures and standard protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine scientific and medical research tasks in biology, chemistry, physics, or related fields.
• Assemble and operate laboratory equipment and apparatus.
• Record data according to procedures and discuss results with supervisor.
• Assist in data collection for project reports and maintain records.
• Read literature and consult with supervisor for new procedures.
• May supervise lower-grade lab personnel on limited phases of research.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY

Works under minimal supervision to provide responsible technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to particular field of science.

Perform routine laboratory experiments using established molecular, cellular, and biochemical techniques to support ongoing research projects. Assist with sample preparation, data collection, and maintenance of accurate laboratory records while ensuring adherence to standard protocols and safety procedures.

Prepare reagents and maintain laboratory supplies and equipment to support daily research operations. Collaborate with laboratory members to facilitate experimental workflows and contribute to the efficient operation and progress of the research program.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

• Education
  Bachelor's Degree With major coursework in field of assignment and no experience or
  Two (2) years of college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment or
  High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  

• Experience
  No experience required with Bachelor's Degree or
  2 years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with two (2) years of college or
  4 years of laboratory experience including two years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with High School Graduation or GED equivalent
  

JOB DUTIES

• Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
• Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
• Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
• Assists in collection of data for project reports.
• Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
• May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
