JOB SUMMARY

This position works under minimal supervision to provide responsible technical assistance in performing assignments requiring basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to a specific scientific field.

This opening is for Dr. Busch's lab at UT Southwestern Medical Center (https://www.utswanesthesia.org/david-r-busch/), which focuses on translating diffuse optics from laboratory to clinical use. Dr. Busch’s current projects primarily focus on monitoring the central nervous system in critically ill patients. The successful applicant will work within a multidisciplinary team (including physics, engineering, anesthesiology, critical care, neurosurgery, neurology) to develop, test, translate clinically, and validate non-invasive and minimally invasive diffuse optical tools. The lab emphasizes personnel development, offering mentorship and skill development opportunities, including preparation for graduate school.

REQUIREMENTS
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in the relevant field and no experience required, or
  • Two (2) years of college with emphasis in relevant coursework, or
  • High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • No experience required with a Bachelor's Degree, or
  • Two (2) years of laboratory experience at the level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with two (2) years of college, or
  • Four (4) years of laboratory experience, including two years at the level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with a High School Diploma or GED
JOB DUTIES
  • Perform routine scientific and medical research in fields such as biology, chemistry, physics, or related areas.
  • Assemble and operate laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Record research data according to prescribed procedures and discuss results with supervisors.
  • Assist in data collection for project reports.
  • Review literature and confer with supervisors on new procedures.
  • Potentially supervise lower-grade laboratory personnel engaged in limited research tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
