The Pilot Plant Research Technician collaborates with the other members of the pilot plant team, engineering, operations, and R&D scientists to execute technical programs in compliance with EHS policies. The position is also responsible for some maintenance and supporting Continuous Improvement (CI) of the pilot plant assets and capabilities. The incumbent reports to the Pilot Plant Engineering Manager.

Your responsibilities:

  • Supports delivery of routine and non-routine tasks and experiments through operation and maintenance of pilot scale and other scientific equipment
  • Executes the experimental R&D program and related support services, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, and full EHS compliance
  • Troubleshoots and repairs pilot plant assets within their scope of authority
  • Maintains an updated and accurate account of experiments using JM approved methods
  • Drives EHS improvements, Good Housekeeping, and other CI initiatives
  • Participates in technical and safety reviews for projects
  • Interacts with project leaders daily to define the project needs and to understand their experimental objective sufficiently to translate into pilot scale experiments
  • Develops and update SOP's, maintain specifications and calibration for equipment, instrumentation and contract services
  • Performs other duties as requested by management to run and maintain pilot plant and provide services to Operations and other JM groups as requested. This includes waste management, material procurement, shipments, housekeeping and others.
  • Works independently with established procedures and is capable to solve day-to-day technical issues
  • Participates in EHS programs and trainings as required by business

Requirements for the role:
  • Associate's degree, or higher, in a Science or Engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience in operations or with research scale pilot plants is preferred, but not required
  • Certification for forklift operation (or willingness to obtain this)
  • Demonstrated team player capabilities
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Be self-motivated and capable of handling multiple tasks
  • Knowledge regarding EHS requirements and best practices
  • Basic computer skills: ability to write/review SOP's, technical summary, maintaining database
  • Experience in (pilot) plant procedures/processes
  • Ability to physically wear and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: gloves, coveralls, hard hats, safety shoes, safety glasses, and goggles
