Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, it is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

With leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy, and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch is a leading biomedical research center. It operates eight clinical care sites providing various oncology services and has network affiliations across five states. Our integrated research and clinical teams aim to discover cures for deadly diseases and improve quality of life beyond cancer.

The Stem Cell and Gene Therapy (SCGT) program is recruiting a Research Technician I-II to focus on bench research, developing gene and cell therapies for HIV and other diseases.

Responsibilities
  • Processing and analyzing primary blood and tissue samples using flow cytometry, PCR, and sterile cell culture, especially primary B cells.
  • Participating in B cell manufacture, culture, and analysis of cells infected with HIV and related viruses.
  • Supporting preclinical modeling experiments with sample processing and analysis.
  • Developing skills in tissue culture and molecular biology.
  • Working with potentially infectious materials using biosafety level 2+ techniques.
Qualifications
Research Technician I:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field or equivalent experience.
  • Basic laboratory skills and scientific knowledge in relevant areas.
Preferred for Technician I:
  • Two years of laboratory experience.
  • Experience with cell culture, PCR, blood processing, and record keeping.
  • Motivated with strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, FlowJo, GraphPad Prism, or similar software.
Research Technician II:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • At least two years of laboratory experience outside of coursework.
Preferred for Technician II:
  • Master’s degree in biological sciences.
  • Experience with primary B cells, CRISPR-Cas9, ELISA, flow cytometry, and molecular biology techniques.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and team collaboration.
Compensation and Benefits

Hourly pay ranges:

  • Research Technician I: $22.87 - $32.56
  • Research Technician II: $26.48 - $37.70
