Position Summary:

Provides routine, entry-level technical assistance in carrying out assigned duties of research projects.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Participate in ongoing efforts to resolve high-resolution cryo-EM structures of human TRPA1 under different pharmacological conditions.
  • Receive training in membrane protein purification.
  • Support ongoing electrophysiology research on TRP and mechano-sensitive ion channels.
  • Conduct routine tests in a research or clinical laboratory setting.
  • Collect research and clinical data as requested.
  • Prepare lab solutions for biochemical experiments and clinical tests; operate lab equipment such as autoclaves, pipet washers, centrifuges, microscopes, and UV microscopes with fluorescent attachments.
  • Perform autoclaving and dispose of biohazardous materials properly.
  • Collect and duplicate reference material.
  • Wash, dry, sterilize, and distribute laboratory glassware and instruments.
  • Order laboratory supplies.
  • Perform custodial laboratory duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • None required.

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experience:

  • No experience necessary; six months of research lab experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Work may involve hazardous chemical, biological, or radioactive agents.

Security Sensitive:

This position may be security sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code § 51.215.

Residency Requirement:

Must reside and work in Texas permanently.
