Job Summary

The Dr. Jinfang Wang laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, is seeking a Research Technician. The lab studies the dynamic mechanisms governing cytosolic and mitochondrial translation, integrating quantitative biochemical, single‑molecule fluorescence biophysical, structural, and genetics approaches. This position is suitable for a recent bachelor’s graduate and welcomes experienced candidates, emphasizing development into an independent scientist with critical thinking and communication skills.

Expectations
  • Be self‑motivated and excited about biochemistry, RNA, and translation.
  • Actively participate in lab meetings, presenting own data.
  • Assist senior lab mates with experiments and/or experimental analysis most of each workday.
  • Perform independent and guided reading into relevant topics for the project.
  • Keep a strong lab notebook and communicate experimental plans and issues.

Required Experience and Education
  • Completion of at least two years of college or specialized training in a relevant field, including courses in physics, chemistry, biology, or equivalent.
  • Experience: One year as a Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent; or three years of laboratory experience including at least two years as a Laboratory Technical Assistant, or high‑school diploma or GED equivalent with relevant coursework.
Job Duties
  • Assist in conducting experiments and working on research problems in physiology, bacteriology, tissue culture, chemistry, and related fields via basic, routine procedures.
  • Assemble and/or operate various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Record resulting data according to established methods; discuss results with supervisor and modify procedures as instructed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
