Position Description:
The Research Technician I in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics will support the operations of the Sequencing Technology Center (STC) by performing specialized tasks including genomic profiling assays, preparing sequencing libraries, and assisting with general day-to-day operations. The position is responsible for the set up and operation of various instruments and processing samples for users of the STC.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Will be responsible for genomic profiling assays such as nucleic acid extraction, sample QC, library preparations, and sequencing across multiple platforms.
- Operates and maintains instrumentation, including sequencers and miscellaneous lab instrumentation.
- Must keep detailed records and enter project information into relevant software.
- Will be expected to support and work closely with team members.
- Will operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Will be responsible for ordering supplies for the lab and Onbase verifications.
- Will assist in general daily laboratory operations.
- Ability to manage projects through initiation to completion.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- Repetitive manual pipetting maybe be necessary
The hours and days may vary depending on operational needs. This position may require standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Biology, Genetics/Genomics, Molecular Biology, or related field.
- One year or more years of relevant experience in a laboratory environment.
- Experience in basic molecular biology techniques, including biospecimen processing, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and sequencing methodologies.
- Experienced with QC instrumentation, general laboratory maintenance, and maintaining inventory for the lab.
- Previous experience with automation is desired, but not required.
- This role works in a dynamic environment that requires interactions with various types of technology and software, candidates are expected to be able to adopt new technology when it is incorporated into the lab.
