Position Type: Full-Time, fixed term.
Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support research and operations in the Ruminant Nutrition Laboratory. This role involves sample collection and processing, laboratory coordination, equipment maintenance, and student supervision. The ideal candidate will have a background in animal sciences or a related field, with hands-on experience in laboratory procedures and dairy cattle handling.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Processing & Analysis (50%)
- Collect and process samples for various nutrient analyses.
- Coordinate with students throughout all phases of sample handling.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Mix chemical reagents and prepare solutions.
- Create and manage spreadsheets for statistical analysis.
Lab Coordination & Supervision (35%)
- Oversee daily operations of the ruminant nutrition laboratory.
- Schedule and train undergraduate student workers.
- Order and manage laboratory supplies.
- Send samples to commercial laboratories.
- Identify, label, and store samples appropriately.
- Maintain a safe and organized lab environment.
- Keep accurate and up-to-date lab records.
Equipment Maintenance (15%)
- Set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance to ensure optimal operation.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience in a laboratory or research setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences or a related field.
- Prior laboratory experience, especially in nutrition or microbiology.
- Experience handling dairy cattle.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

The salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
