Research Technician

Equivalent relevant work experience may substitute for the degree requirement. This position is located at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville. Prior to employment, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required. A current TB test will also be necessary. Job Summary

Performs various laboratory experiments and procedures, prepares specimens, manages supplies, and operates laboratory equipment.

Essential Functions

1. Performs laboratory experiments such as histology, flow cytometry, molecular techniques, gene sequencing, and related functions, including testing, troubleshooting, and analysis. May perform microsurgical procedures, ensuring specifications are met.
2. Identifies and prepares specimens.
3. Manages supply ordering, procurement, tracking, and receiving.
4. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
5. Maintains detailed, accurate data and logs, and organizes results.
6. Maintains, calibrates, cleans, and tests the sterility of laboratory equipment.
7. Will learn techniques including cell culture, western blot analysis, and murine colony maintenance.
