Position Summary

The laboratory of Dr. Silvia Moreno, located at the Coverdell Center for Biomedical Research, is looking for a full-time technician. The laboratory studies the parasite Toxoplasma gondii, which infects over 2 billion people worldwide. The job involves general laboratory tasks like maintaining cells and parasite lines, organization of reagents and laboratory inventories, training and supervising undergraduate students, etc. This technician will also be involved in ongoing research projects on drug discovery or calcium signaling.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Basic knowledge of lab work like making dilutions, sterility, etc.
  • Experience working in a research laboratory.
Physical Demands
  • Standing for long periods of time.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • General laboratory chores, which include placing orders, supervising and training undergraduate students, assisting post-docs and graduate students with their experiments, disposal of biohazardous, chemical and radioactive waste, maintaining inventories. (50% of time)
  • Maintaining tissue culture cells used for the growth of Toxoplasma gondii. (30% of time)
  • Helping the PI with writing animal, biosafety, chemical protocols, developing SOPs for working with specific reagents, and conducting animal work for generating antibodies and other experiments. (20% of time)
