Pay Range Information

Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate ofthe compensation range for this position. This range takes intoaccount a variety of factors that are considered in makingcompensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, licensure and certifications, and otherbusiness and organizational needs. Salary offers are determinedbased on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, aswell as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipatedpay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

Job Description Summary

Statistician will work in the area of psychosocial health. Theposition requires high-level expertise in psychology, researchdesign, data preprocessing, and applied statistics. Keyresponsibilities include preprocessing data for analysis,performing complex data analysis, manuscript writing, publishingresearch findings in peer-reviewed journals, and mentoring juniorresearchers. This position requires an advanced degree (PhD[preferrable] or Masters) in a field related to research designand/or applied statistical analysis.

Responsibilities
Data Preprocessing
  • Cleaning data extracted from medical records and/or RedCapsurvey software
  • Restructuring data (e.g., going from wide to long or viceversa)
  • Identifying and reporting data errors through descriptives andfrequency statistics
  • Calculating variables (e.g., sum scores, averages of scaleitems)
  • Ensuring data align with codebook
Statistical Analysis
  • Conducting advanced statistical models (e.g., multilevelmodeling, structural equation modeling) to test hypotheses
  • Writing up statistical findings in both paragraph andtable/figure form
Manuscript Writing
  • Crafting manuscript sections (e.g., introduction, methods,results, discussion) to convey the research question, study design,and outcomes of the results
  • Submit manuscript for publication in journal portal
Mentoring Junior Researchers
  • Guide other staff/students in conducting statistics (e.g.,t-tests, linear regression)
  • Guide other staff/students in creating tables for statisticalresults (e.g., bar graphs, line graphs)
Participating in meetings
  • Meetings that regard data processing (including format of thedata needed to match codebooks)
  • Meetings that regard planning and interpreting statisticalanalyses
Required Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a related field conductinginferential/applied statistics
  • 4+ years of graduate-level research experience in psychology ora related field
  • Experience with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R,Stata)
  • Advanced understanding of inferential statistical methods andapplied data analysis
