Description

The Biorepository Laboratory Technician is responsible for the receipt, processing, storage, retrieval, and distribution of biological specimens within the biorepository. This role ensures that all samples are handled in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements to maintain sample integrity and traceability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of specialized and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures.
  • Uses independent judgment in applying or adapting scientific techniques.
  • May assist in protocol design.
  • Investigates and proposes alternative experimental procedures for consideration by a principal investigator.
  • Assists in planning and scheduling research procedures.
  • Analyzes and interprets results of studies.
  • Demonstrates and trains others in the proper use/operation of laboratory techniques and equipment.
  • Calibrates, troubleshoots and performs routine repair and maintenance of equipment.
  • Reviews literature for related research developments and techniques and compiles findings.
  • Monitors laboratory processes to maintain quality assurance standards.
  • Records results of studies, compiles and analyzes data and prepares charts and graphs.
  • Monitors the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
  • Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.

ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Receive, log, and accession biological specimens following established protocols.
  • Process samples (e.g., aliquoting, labeling, and freezing) in compliance with SOPs.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all specimens, including entry into the laboratory information management system (LIMS).
  • Store and retrieve samples under specified temperature conditions, ensuring proper inventory control.
  • Monitor and maintain biorepository equipment, including freezers, refrigerators, and liquid nitrogen storage systems.
  • Perform routine quality control checks to ensure sample integrity and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Prepare specimens for shipping and distribution to research collaborators and clinical partners.
  • Follow all biosafety, compliance, and quality assurance guidelines, including Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) regulations.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel for data management, reporting, and analysis.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including Cobas analyzers, SomaLogic platforms, and mass spectrometry instruments.
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment and inventory discrepancies as needed.
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance biorepository operations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and two years of research experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
