Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a Research Specialist II in the Meissner Research Lab to study lambda interferon signaling via IFNLR1. You will perform diverse molecular and cellular assays, optimize protocols, and help prepare data for presentations and publications.

The role requires meticulous technique, familiarity with cell culture, RNA/DNA work, and data analysis, with occasional weekend hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or related science and one year work experience directly related to the assigned research area.
• Experience with primary and established cell culture techniques including cell expansion, transfection and characterization.
• Proficiency with RNA/DNA isolation, PCR/qRT-PCR, and molecular cloning.
• Experience with protein and cellular assays, including western blotting, flow cytometry and fluorescent microscopy.
• Familiarity with analysis and interpretation of biologic datasets, including proteomic and transcriptomic data.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, expand and characterize mammalian primary cells and cell lines under sterile culture conditions.
• Perform cellular and molecular biology techniques including isolation of RNA/DNA, DNA cloning, PCR/qRT-PCR, western blotting, flow cytometry and fluorescent microscopy.
• Document procedures and data, analyze data with GraphPad, and assist in presentations/publications.
• Assist with day-to-day laboratory operations, including inventory management and ordering of reagents.
