Job Description Summary
The Research Specialist role for the Perelman School of Medicine Division of Cardiology will coordinate activities between the laboratories of Dr. Zoltan Arany MD., PhD. (Penn Medicine), and Dr. Kenneth Margulies MD (Penn Medicine). The role is to facilitate IRB-approved translational heart and vascular research studies. The individual will work closely with Principal Investigators and associated researchers on several active projects. Projects are in advanced heart failure, vascular disease, neurointerventional radiology, cardio-obstetrics and electrophysiology. The Research Specialist will collaborate with clinical cardiovascular research teams at Penn and CHOP.
The role of the Research Specialist will be to consent patients for research studies and collect and process 1) surgically explanted heart tissue specimens from patients undergoing cardiac surgery and transplantation; and 2) blood obtained during inpatient and outpatient procedures and clinic visits. They will catalogue specimens using existing inventory management systems. The research specialist will assist in management of clinical information pertaining to research specimens, and collating and overseeing regulatory documentation. Overall, the Research Specialist will be exposed to numerous aspects of clinical and pre-clinical research in a preeminent health system.
