Job summary

North Carolina State University is seeking a Research Security Specialist to oversee security reviews, risk assessments, and compliance for research data. You will coordinate with ISRA/ORI and campus IT to ensure policies meet regulatory standards and contractual obligations.

The role includes acting as the ISSE for the SURE environment, guiding IT risk management, and driving security awareness initiatives, with focus on NIST 800-171, HIPAA, FERPA, and related frameworks.

Qualifications

• The IT Security Professional provides technical implementations and daily monitoring in accordance with NIST 800-171, CMMC, NIST 800-53, PCI DSS, FERPA, GLBA, HIPAA.
• Experience with IT risk management, cybersecurity reviews, and audits.
• Strong ability to coordinate with faculty, ORI, and IT staff to ensure contract/compliance alignment.

• Coordinate audit activities and ensure proper documentation and training.
• Serve as ISSM for the SURE environment and maintain compliance programs.
