Research Scientist - Power Electronics, Raleigh - North Carolina USA

We are looking for a research scientist with expertise in Power Electronics for our research center in Raleigh, North Carolina. As a scientist in the global Hitachi Energy Research organization, you will propose and lead cutting edge research projects to push the boundaries of knowledge and technology for Hitachi Energy's future products and services.

The seniority level for this position will align with the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a global team of researchers and engineers in Hitachi Energy Research and Hitachi Energy business units to perform research and development for next generation technology in power electronics, such as topology analysis, modeling and control, and power electronics application in the power system.
  • Collaborate and support all business units and ensure successful execution of research projects.
  • Identify technology gaps that address present and future business needs in the field of power electronics technologies and their application in the power system.
  • Network in the company and actively distribute your knowledge and expertise.
  • Collaborate with external partners including universities, national labs, startups, and vendors.
  • Disseminate results in scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports.

Your Background

  • Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power electronics.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: power electronics topology analysis, converter modelling and control, application of power electronics in the power system (e.g. HVDC, FACTS, microgrid, renewable energy integration, energy storage, EV charging infrastructure), control theory, reliability, etc.
  • Solid theoretical background with publications in renowned transactions and conferences.
  • Proficient in computation and simulation tools, e.g., Matlab, Simulink, PSCAD, PLECS, etc.
  • Excellent innovation capability and competence in application-oriented research.
  • Self-motivated, high curiosity and ability to learn new technologies.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills in English.
