Job summary

DuBois in Ohio seeks a seasoned chemist to drive formulation development for industrial markets, especially metalworking fluids, while improving the existing product portfolio.

You will collaborate with Procurement and Raw Materials to identify alternates and strengthen supply resilience, combining hands-on lab work with customer exposure to translate innovations into real-world applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • 4+ years of experience formulating chemistries/chemical blends to develop new products.
  • Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally up to 10%.
  • Experience using technical instrumentation, Microsoft Office tools, and database management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe work culture by leading by example, ensuring lab and workplace safety requirements are met.
  • Formulate new chemical solutions across metalworking fluids and related chemistries per project schedules.
  • Use experimental design during feasibility studies to drive development to a decision point.
  • Participate in commercialization activities, BOM and SDS reviews, and ISO-driven processes.
  • Develop new test procedures and maintain procedures for product monitoring and field verification.
  • Evaluate existing DuBois products and competitive technologies for continuous improvement.
  • Assess raw materials for alternate sourcing, profitability, or performance enhancements.
  • Support production activities and quality assurance, including scale-up of new formulas.
  • Lead root-cause investigations using problem-solving techniques.
  • Create content for technical bulletins, data sheets, and training materials.
  • Engage with customers to observe products in operation and identify innovations.

Position Overview

This role will focus heavily on formulating new chemistries for industrial markets, with an emphasis on metalworking fluids and support for a wide variety of related applications. You will also play a key role in modifying and improving our extensive existing product portfolio, ensuring customers continue to succeed with the best technologies available.

Beyond formulation, you’ll help strengthen business continuity by collaborating closely with Procurement and Raw Materials teams to identify alternates and support supply resilience efforts.

Your work will combine hands‑on laboratory development with customer exposure, giving you firsthand insight into real‑world operational challenges and the opportunity to see your innovations in action.

Key Responsibilities
  • Promote a safe work culture by leading by example, ensuring compliance with lab and workplace safety requirements, supporting risk assessments, and contributing to continuous improvement.

  • Formulate new solutions according to established project schedules across metalworking fluids, lubricants, and other related chemistries

  • Utilize experimental design during feasibility studies to quickly drive the development path to a decision point.

  • Actively participate in commercialization activities, including bill‑of‑materials (BOM) and safety data sheet (SDS) reviews, as well as other ISO‑driven processes.

  • Develop new test procedures when required and ensure appropriate procedures are maintained to support accurate product monitoring and field performance verification.

  • Conduct evaluations of existing DuBois products and competitive technologies to drive continuous improvement.

  • Assess raw materials for alternative sourcing, profit maintenance, or performance enhancement to strengthen DuBois’ competitive position.

  • Support production activities and the quality assurance team, including observing and training production/quality assurance personnel, assisting scale‑up of new formulas, and investigating off‑spec batches.

  • Leverage problem‑solving techniques to support and lead root‑cause investigations.

  • Develop content for technical bulletins, technical data sheets, and training materials.

  • Engage with customers to observe products in operation, gather application insights, and identify opportunities for new innovations.

  • Provide mentoring and training to team members on formulation principles, testing methods, and R&D best practices.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering

  • 4+ years of experience formulating chemistries/chemical blends to develop new products

  • Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally up to 10%

  • Experience using technical instrumentation, Microsoft Office tools, and database management systems

  • Excellent communication skills

Other Information:
  • Full‑Time (40 hours a week)

  • Travel: 10%
