South Dakota Mines invites applications for a part-time Research Scientist I position in the Arbegast Materials Processing and Joining Laboratory. Located in Rapid City, this role supports both basic and applied research in advanced materials processing and joining.

The successful candidate will design and execute experimental research, advise student researchers, and disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Materials Science and Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering or closely related field is required.
• Expertise in advanced manufacturing including metal additive manufacturing, cold spray processing, and/or friction stir welding/processing. In addition, expertise in computer science with a degree in computer science or related field preferred.

Job description

The Arbegast Materials Processing and Joining (AMP) Laboratory at South Dakota Mines invites applications for a Research Scientist I position. This is a part-time (50% effort), benefited position. The AMP Laboratory has a history of conducting both basic and applied research in the area of advanced materials processing and joining. AMP is home to a host of advanced processing equipment including friction stir welding, cold spray technology, and laser powder directed energy deposition.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• designing and executing experimental research
• advising student researchers
• disseminating research findings through peer-reviewed publications and scientific conference presentations

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Materials Science and Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering or closely related field is required.
• The applicant should have expertise in advanced manufacturing including metal additive manufacturing, cold spray processing, and/or friction stir welding/processing. In addition, the applicant should have expertise in computer science with a degree in computer science or related field preferred.

Advertised Salary $29.81 depending on education and experience
