Job summary

Amazon.com Services LLC in Seattle, WA is seeking a research scientist to advance strategy and develop quantification methods for carbon dioxide removal and GHG reduction projects.

You will partner with sustainability and science teams to publish methods, assess project performance, travel to sites, and help scale climate solutions globally.

Required doctoral or master's with extensive quantitative research, strong data analysis skills, and experience with R, MATLAB, or Python.

Qualifications

• PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of quantitative field research experience
• Experience investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products
• Experience analyzing both experimental and observational data

Responsibilities

• Own science-based strategy and quality bar setting in scalable carbon reduction and/or removal segments
• Review and identify weaknesses in existing quantification approaches within voluntary and compliance carbon markets
• Develop novel methodological approaches to quantify the climate impact of projects
• Build trust with external academics, civil society, and suppliers in carbon reduction/removal
• Publish internal- and external-facing scientific publications demonstrating quantification and credit quality
• Collaborate with portfolio and project managers to instill best scientific practices
• Occasionally travel to project sites around the US and world
