Job summary

Amazon Science in Seattle seeks a research scientist to design and apply quantification methods for carbon dioxide removal and greenhouse gas reductions. You will lead strategy and set quality standards across removal segments and engage with external academics and partners.

You will analyze complex data, publish findings, and collaborate with a broad sustainability community across Amazon. Some travel to projects worldwide is expected.

Qualifications

  • PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of quantitative field research experience
  • Experience applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems
  • Experience analyzing both experimental and observational data sets

Responsibilities

  • Own science-based strategy and quality bar setting in scalable carbon reduction and/or removal segments.
  • Review and identify weaknesses in existing quantification approaches within carbon markets.
  • Develop novel methodological approaches to quantify climate impact of projects.
  • Build trust with external academics, civil society, and suppliers in carbon reduction/removal.
  • Publish internal- and external-facing scientific publications.
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers and sustainability science community to instill best practices.
  • Periodically travel to project sites and facilities around the US and world.
