Job summary

Amazon.com Services LLC in Seattle, WA, is seeking a Research Scientist to drive strategy for quantification of carbon removal and greenhouse gas reductions. You will apply first-principles thinking to model the carbon cycle, design evaluation methods, and quantify impact across several removal segments.

You will collaborate with academia and industry partners, publish findings, and help scale climate solutions globally.

Qualifications

PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of quantitative field research experience.
Experience applying scientific principles to business problems and products.
Experience analyzing both experimental and observational data sets.

Responsibilities

Own science-based strategy and quality bar setting for carbon reduction and/or removal segments.
Review and identify weaknesses in existing quantification approaches within carbon markets.
Develop novel methodologies to quantify the climate impact and monitor ongoing performance of specific segments and/or projects.
Build trust with external academics, civil society, and suppliers working in carbon reduction and removal.
Publish internal- and external-facing scientific publications demonstrating Amazon’s approach to quantification and credit quality.
Work closely with portfolio managers and a broader sustainability science community to instill best scientific practices in investments.
Periodically travel to project sites and facilities around the US and world.
