Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a Research Scientist to advance agentic workflow orchestration and cross-facility integration in support of the Genesis Mission, the American Science Cloud, and the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF). The role sits in the WES Group at NCCS, designing and deploying scalable workflow and data-capture solutions across heterogeneous environments.

Qualifications

• PhD required with strong background in distributed systems, provenance, or workflow orchestration.
• Experience designing or operating distributed systems and workflow orchestration frameworks.
• Proven ability to lead multi-institutional research initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead provenance and runtime data capture systems for distributed scientific workflows.
• Serve as technical lead for cross-facility initiatives spanning leadership computing, experimental facilities, and cloud platforms.
• Design agentic workflows and autonomous control systems for HPC and instruments.
