Position Overview We are seeking a skilled quantitative researcher with expertise in data management, statistical analysis, and research methodologies applied to higher education contexts. The ideal candidate will align advanced quantitative methods with strategic research goals, efficiently handle data pipelines (extraction, cleaning, transformation, and analysis), and uncover actionable trends and patterns to inform evidence-based decisions in teaching, learning, pedagogy, engagement, and educational technology—including emerging areas like learning in virtual reality.
This role emphasizes collaboration within a dynamic, interdisciplinary team committed to integrating quantitative insights with qualitative perspectives for richer, co-informed understandings of learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform data computation, statistical analysis, and visualization primarily using R (required); familiarity with SQL is a plus.
- Integrate and ensure compatibility of data from diverse sources (internal university datasets and external sources), collaborating with data management teams as needed.
- Oversee data collection, compilation, cleaning, and preparation.
- Conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses, exploratory data analysis, and modeling.
- Select, recommend, and apply appropriate research designs, methodologies, and statistical techniques to meet project objectives.
- Contribute to mixed-methods approaches by valuing and advancing the integration of quantitative and qualitative insights.
- Support the preparation of internal reports, presentations, formal research outputs, and literature reviews to guide study design and dissemination.
- Collaborate with the DSL research team to produce quantitative evidence that directly informs instructional practices, pedagogy, student engagement, and technology adoption.
- Co-manage survey research using Qualtrics, including survey design, development, implementation, and administration.
- Effectively manage a high volume of research files, tasks, and priorities; track and report on daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
- Take on additional duties or special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- PhD (or near completion/ABD with clear defense timeline) in learning sciences, data science, education, psychology, business analytics, or a closely related field—strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in R for data management, exploratory analysis, descriptive/inferential statistics, modeling, and creating high-quality data visualizations.
- Hands‑on experience designing, programming, and implementing surveys in Qualtrics.
- Strong background in quantitative research methods, including experimental/quasi-experimental designs, inferential statistics, and data modeling.
- Knowledge of higher education research, assessment, program evaluation, and/or learning in virtual reality environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present complex findings clearly to diverse audiences.
- Proven collaboration and teamwork skills in matrixed, fast-paced, team-oriented settings.
- High agency, adaptability, and comfort working under pressure, in ambiguous situations, and against tight deadlines.
- Passion for working in inclusive, diverse teams dedicated to impactful educational improvement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Advanced expertise in R-based quantitative analysis and visualization.
- Understanding of higher education contexts and data-driven decision-making.
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for collaborative, inclusive work.
- Self-motivated, open-minded, and communicative.
